Fundraiser for Nickolas Krause, in Memory of Master Officer Don Krause (Retired) Concord P.D.
We say farewell to one of Concord Police Department’s most beloved retirees, Master Officer Don Krause. “Donk” had retired less than 5 years ago and passed away unexpectedly on 1/17/19. Don lived with his teenage son, Nick, in Danville. Sadly, Don lost his wife, and Nick lost his mother, more than two years prior.
Anyone who had the great privilege to work with, and learn from, Don, also learned to love every one of his quirks, his laughter, and his sarcasm.
Don had the respect of all who knew him because of his compassion, work habits, and ethics, which remained steadfast and unwavering to his last day.

BALEAF Vice President, Robin Matthews, and Immediate Past President, Kelly Blackwell-Garcia, had the honor of being presented with a check for $1,000 today, that was raised at a fundraiser for the Nickolas Krause Fund. Sergeant Joshua "Josh" Graham from the Concord Police Department, got the idea of having a fitness competition with local law enforcement officers at his local gym, Orangetheory Fitness in Concord, and approached Makenna Walls and Jena Maclean from the gym to see if it would be possible to have the fundraising event there. They both wholeheartedly agreed, and couldn't wait to begin setting up an intensive, one-hour cardio workout for the competition!
Josh then approached the Concord Police Officer's Association (POA) about the proposed benefit, and they were immediately on board with supporting this fundraiser, that would benefit the teenage son of one of their retired officers that had died suddenly. The word went out about the cardio competition to Bay Area law enforcement organizations, and on Saturday, February 2nd, 30 officers from the Concord Police Department, the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office, the Pittsburg Police Department, and the Hayward Police Department came and got the workout of their lives, all for a good cause!
Many thanks to everyone who participated in this fundraiser, and especially to the Concord POA and Orangetheory Fitness! Without your unwaivering support, this fundraiser would not have been able to occur!
I was very happy to be able to hand deliver 24 checks to members of the Santa Rosa Police Department and the Sonoma County Deputy Sheriffs Department who are victims of the NorCal fires and our Local Heroes on March 1st, 2018. Together, BALEAF, Dell, Google and private donors generously donated and we were able to raise an additional $12,000.00 for law-enforcement members and their families in a time of need.
As always we appreciate your ongoing support of our organization!
Sincerely, Kelly Blackwell Garcia

It was my honor and privilege to hand-deliver 25 checks to active and retired members of the Santa Rosa Police Department who lost their homes to the fires. Due to the many generous donations made on the behalf of active and retired members of the Santa Rosa Police Department and their families, very giving donors and BALEAF we were able to raise over $39,000.00 in little over a month. It was a pleasure to meet with Chief Schreeder and a wonderful experience working with Retired SRPD Tom Combs on the SRPD RELIEF FUND. We thank each and every person who contributed. We honor our First Responders and their families and their brothers and sisters who support them.
